Windows 7 loading issue

Error:
When NovoCRM Express is installed on Windows 7 the first time you start the application it just closes (crashes).

Cause:
In Windows 7 the connections.xml file is not created because of a security restriction in Windows 7.

Resolution:
Go to the installation folder for NovoCRM Express and create a new file called Connections.xml. Now start NovoCRM Express again and add new connections.

You can also email support and we can send you the Connections.xml file to use with a pre-setup connection.

Cannot add or update records in Windows 7 for MS Access database

Error:
When you open up NovoCRM Express and login you cannot add new records or update existing records when you use the default MS Access database.

Cause:
The database is read only in Windows 7 when it is installed in the Program Files folder.

Resolution:
Go to the installation folder and right clck on the folder called database. Now uncheck teh read only option and press ok. This will fix the issue and you will now be able to add and update records.

We recommend that you use MS SQL for multi user environments when you run NovoCRM Express.

Setup/installation instructions for using the ASPPortal application.

1. Extract the aspportal.zip file into a location on your server where you will be hosting the portal from.
Example: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspportal\
2. Open and edit the common/ado/connection_open.asp file at line 9, change the following line.

Default: Application("ConnectionStr") = "provider=microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0;data source=" & server.MapPath("../../data/aspportal.mdb") & ";"
*The default will try to auto connect to the database, but if it cannot find the correct path please update as per the example below.

Example: Application("ConnectionStr") = "provider=microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0;data source=c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspportal\Data\aspportal.mdb;"

*Note that if you location is different in step 1 then your source in step 2 must be updated to match this.
*This is very important if this is not setup correclty then your portal will NOT work.

3. Make sure the ISUR on your server has read/write access to the aspporta.mdb file on your server, other wise you will not be able to login or change anything on the portal.

4. Now run the portal, http:///default.asp

*Note that this file will redirect you to the /content/home/default1.asp file.

Cause:
This error is caused by a corrupt Microsoft .Net Framework file.

Resolution:
Verify the Microsoft .Net Framework is installed. Click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs. Scroll down the list to find .Net Framework .

If Microsoft .Net Framework is installed you will need to uninstall the Microsoft .Net Framework and reinstall it.

MS Outlook Add-in cannot login

You cannot login to the NovoCRM Express Outlook Add-in with a invalid license error but it works from the NovoCRM Express Win and Web Client.

The MS Outlook Add-in supports both MS Outlook 2007 (Office 12) and MS Outlook 2003 (Office 11). Based on your MS Outlook client you may need to use the specific installer for your MS Outlook version.

Resolution

The IsLicense40.dll file is missing in the execution path of the Add-in... this can be copied over should it be missing.

Select the NovoCRM Express menu in MS Outlook and click on Info. This will show you the exectuable path. Copy the IsLicense40.dll to the path from the NovoCRM Express installation folder.

Restart MS Outlook. You should now be able to login as normal.

HTML Text Viewer uses double spacing on enter (carage return)

NovoCRM supports the use of rich text in most large text fields, allowing users to enter the text and format it as needed.

When the Enter key is pressed double spacing occurs and it seems that the text viewer inserts a new line. This can be fixed by holding down the SHIFT key and pressing enter.

When this is done only a single spacing occurs and no double spacing as is the case without the SHIFT key.

NovoCRM Installation error: The service already exists.

The NovoCRM Server installs a windows service call "NovoCRM Server".
This service starts automatically when you login to your windows session or when the computer is turned on.

When you install a new version of NovoCRM you may get the error indicating that the service already exists.

Resolution

Open up the Control Panel and select Administrative Tools.
Select services and move to the service called NovoCRM Server.
If it is started then stop it. Once the service is stopped proceed to start it again.
Now you can double click on the desktop icon and open the NovoCRM Server Admin Utility.
It should not try to install again as the service is already running.

You can then login to the NovoCRM Server Admin utility and setup your database connections or upgrade an existing database.

Customer Portal - How does it work

The Customer Portal allows NovoCRM users to setup a web based lead registration system and contact management portal.

Once a new registration occurs NovoCRM will create a new Contact which allows the user to login to the Customer Portal and a new Lead will be created that is linked to the Contact. Database support for MS SQL, MS Access and mySQL

When NovoCRM was released support for MS SQL, MS Access and mySQL was provided. The current release (2.5.x.x) only supports MS SQL and MS Access database options for the NovoCRM Server.

We will provide the support back for mySQL in Q4 2007 but we recommend users use NovoCRM with MS SQL Express (Free or Enterprise edition) for the best performance.

Error
Unable to find support for mySQL in version 2.5.x.x

Resolution
We suggest using MS SQL Express or MS SQL in NovoCRM. The support for mySQL will be added back after release 2.6.0.0 in Q4 2007.

Please feel free to contact the support team to assist you in converting existing mySQL data to MS SQL or wait to upgrade later in 2007 once mySQL support is back.

NovoCRM Server does not process invalid e-mail addresses when sending e-mails

The NovoCRM can send e-mail using MS Outlook or the NovoCRM Server. We have added functionality to validate e-mail addresses in the NovoCRM Server and Client. This will ensure that any invalid e-mail addresses do not keep up e-mail in the queue and the NovoCRM Server will mark these messages invalid e-mail address messages.

The NovoCRM Client will also check before sending if the e-mail address is valid or not. A warning will be shown but we will still allow the e-mail to be processed. The NovoCRM may mark a invalid e-mail as an error and it will not be processed.

Error;
NovoCRM server gets stuck when a invalid or bad e-mail address is processed in the e-mail queue.

Resolution;
NovoCRM release 2.6.0.0 will address this issue by verifying the e-mail address format before sending the server will also mark invalid addresses while processing other messages.

Shared calendars in NovoCRM

Calendar sharing has been added to NovoCRM release 2.6.0.0. This allows users to give other users in NovoCRM access to their calendar. Users can now also view mutiple calendars at once and compare availability in seconds.

The calendar sharing can also be used to manage boardrooms, meeting rooms or any other location by adding a user with the name of that room and then sharing it with other users.

Error;
Share calendar with other users and use calendar to manage shared facilities like meeting rooms.

Resolution;
NovoCRM 2.6.0.0 has addressed this issue with shared calendars that allow any user to grant access to their calendar for any user in NovoCRM.

By adding a user that represents a boardroom, meeting room or any other location and then sharing the calendar with other users you can easily setup a central calendar system in NovoCRM.

This functionality expands the NovoCRM calendar module to manage more than just activities and to do items but to also share information and manage spaces or any other location.

Error adding license key to NovoCRM

When you login to the NovoCRM Client or Server Admin Utility the server will verify that a valid license key exists. If one is not found a dialog will request you to add a license key.

Error;
License key shows as "Invalid License Key" or License does not add.

Resolution;
The license key you enter will be checked by the NovoCRM Server first and then commited to the database. If the license key message indicates "Invalid License" the key my be in the wrong format or may be incomplete. Please ensure that your database connection is correct and that you have created the tables in the database using the Admin Utility.

If the license key shows up as expired it indicates to a evaluation license that has expired. The default evaluation period is 30 days and you will need to contact the sales team to fix this problem.

NovoCRM Service will not start.

NovoCRM Server runs as a Windows Service called "NovoCRM Server" it starts automatically when Windows starts.

Error;
The NovoCRM Service (Server) does not start after I installed it.

Resolution;
The NovoCRM Service (Server) reads from the system registry to locate the server_connect file. The registry location is "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NovoCRM\NovoCRM Server" the key is called "server_connect_path".

If you installed NovoCRM to a different location you may need to change the path to point to the new install location.

This may happen if you install a new version and select a different location than the default install location. The "server_connect_path" is point to the wrong location and the NovoCRM Service (Server) will not be able to find it and will not start. Once the path points to a valid location the server will start.

Running NovoCRM Server as a Windows Service

The NovoCRM can run as a Windows Service if you use version 2.5.1.0 or higher. By default the server will run and automatically start when your machine starts.

Service Name;
The service name is "NovoCRM Server" and can be accessed from the services management console under Administartive Tools in the Control panel.

The NovoCRM Server Admin Utility is now used to administer the server and can be used to manage remote NovoCRM Servers.

NovoCRM supports MS Access, MS SQL and MS SQL Express database engines.

MS Access;
Just browse to the database that is located on your network or on the server that is running the NovoCRM Server. Only the NovoCRM Server needs access to the database for it to work.

Save the database connection and restart the NovoCRM Server / Service.

MS SQL and SQL Express;
Database Name: The name of the database or catalog in SQL.

Server Name: This is the SQL Instance name or IP Address of the machine hosting SQL. For SQL Express you need to add "\SQLEXPRESS". For example: SERVERNAME\SQLEXPRESS

Authentication: Select Windows Authentication for default installations. If you have a custom login select SQL Authtentication.

How do i get the LDAP login to work with the ASPPortal system?

With the release of ASPPortal 4.0.1 we have included the option to authneticate against your Microsoft Active Directory server using the LDAP protocol.

All you need is to create a user in the aspportal database that has the same username as the LDAP user, then set the security group in your ASPPortal database for this user.

Now when they login they use their domain username and password with the domain name. And they will be able to login to the ASPPortal system with their LDAP password. If you need any help please contact support@aspportal.net

How do I install a theme that I downloaded from ASPPortal?

Theme Installation Steps:

1. Download the theme from the ASPPortal website.
2. Open the ZIP you downloaded.
3. Place the image file into the \images\banners folder in your portal
4. Place the CSS file into the \common\css in your portal
5. Login to your ASPPortal and click on Portal Options
6. In the Stylesheet dropdown select the CSS file you just added
7. Update the banner file name to point to your image IE - ../../images/banners/urban_option.jpg
8. Click on Update and your theme will be applied.

Password encryption options

The ASP Portal system does ship with a default password encryption package, we use a encryption key that is 512bit's long.

Our encryption is not 512bit but the key used contains 512bit's you can upgrade the encryption by changing the follwoing functions in the code;

How to install aspportal

First unzip the aspportal zip file you downloaded into your root of your webserver or if you created a folder to be the root of your site, then use that folder.

Now edit the global.asa file as per the instructions in teh readme.txt file

Now make sure your IUSER account has read write access to the database and that you allow parent paths.

Now browser to see if your portal is running, if you get a 403 error, it means the connection_open.asp settings to the database is incorrect.

What you need to do to resolve tihs is the follwoing steps

In your global.asa check the the database path is correct, by default the portal will try to auto detect this if this fails then you will get this message.
Simply replace this section in your global.asa;

With

c:\portal\data\aspportal.mdb
or the actual physical path to the database, also make sure the ISUR has read and write access to this folder.

How to use the Image/photo gallery in ASPPortal

To configure the Image/Photo gallery follow the steps below.

In your portal folder content/gallery/
1. create a folder that will hold your gallery, note that the folder name will be used as the gallery name.
2. After you created the folder simply copy your photo's into the folder.

Now click on the gallery link in your menu and you should see your gallery, click on it and you will see your images.

If you click on the images they will open in actual size in a new browser.
In ASPPortal version 4 we have added a image upload section in the admin module.

You could receive the above error when the MEConsole application has been opened on the server and a user tries to login to the spaminator application.

This is not a Spaminator error but simply a limitation when using a MS Access database. We strongly suggest that you use a MS SQL database backend with the Spaminator system, this will improve over all performance.
